
Giving Hope Benefit Dinner Gala 2008

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Foundation held its first benefit dinner in Washington, DC at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Washington on September 23, 2008 to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. The evening included silent auction and live music. Wendy Rieger, NBC's Washington DC anchor, Emcee the dinner and was outstanding.

The program began with Clark Gaines, Assistant Executive Director of the National Football Players League. Mr. Gaines shared his memories of his best friend, Gene Upshaw, the late president of the NFL Players League who died recently of pancreatic cancer. Next came brief remarks by Dr. Clarence Brown, III, President and CEO of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando and Dr. Cheryl Baker, Director of the Cancer Research Institute in Orlando, Florida. Guests learned about the recent developments in a new potential anticancer drug to stop pancreatic cancer cell growth. The dinner concluded with beautiful music by concert violinist Jenny Oakes Baker, making the gala dinner a perfect combination of education and pure entertainment.
PCAF also released a new brochure at the dinner with key facts on pancreatic cancer and information about the research which PCAF support and help to fund at the Cancer Research Institute of M.D. Anderson-Orlando. The silent auction, which had many fascinating and fund items, including signed books, dinners at D.C. restaurants, fine jewelry, fine luxury hotel accommodations and more, was a big success.
